Engineer Ishraq Hossain, a member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Committee on International Affairs, has filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking permission to take the oath as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
The writ was submitted today (Sunday) to the concerned bench of the High Court on his behalf. Ishraq Hossain, who was the BNP-endorsed mayoral candidate in the DSCC election, claims that although he had been declared a valid candidate and had the legal right to assume office, he was never allowed to take the official oath due to political reasons.
Legal experts believe the petition may prompt the court to seek an explanation from relevant authorities regarding the delay or obstruction in administering the oath.
Further details about the hearing date or the court’s response are yet to be disclosed.
