Bangladeshi filmmaker Abu Shahed Emon’s long-awaited feature A Foolish Man is moving closer to production, with Taiwan’s Flash Forward Entertainment joining as an international co-production partner, according to Variety.
The film follows Yakub, a man who escapes death row during the fall of a dictatorship and struggles to survive in a country where law has collapsed and police themselves have become targets.
Emon shared: “A Foolish Man is not a film I decided to make — it’s a film that has lived within me for more than a decade. Since drafting the first version in 2011, it has followed me like a quiet shadow, refusing to let go. What began as a simple story about a man mocked for his name has evolved into something far deeper: a meditation on legacy, shame, and the weight of identity within a broken system.
